Musei Civici agli Eremitani
The Museum Complex, the oldest in the Veneto, is housed in the cloisters of the former convent of the Eremitani friars.
It comprises the Archaeological Museum and the Museum of Medieval and Modern Art, as well as the Cappella degli Scrovegni.

ARCHAEOLOGICAL MUSEUM
It brings together important collections of archaeological finds from the Palaeo-Venetic, pre-Roman and Roman periods and houses an Egyptian section that was enlarged thanks to the archaeological discoveries of the Paduan explorer Giovan Battista Belzoni (1778-1823).
Through a multimedia station, visitors can learn about the life, travels and discoveries of Giovan Battista Belzoni.
MUSEUM OF MEDIEVAL AND MODERN ART
In the rich picture gallery, with works created from the 14th to the 19th century by the great masters of Italian painting, is displayed Giotto’s Crucifix, an early 14th-century work that once hung above the altar of the Cappella degli Scrovegni. This is followed by an important group of panel paintings by Guariento, including the “Angels” from the Chapel of the Carraresi Palace. Among the many sixteenth-century masterpieces are the “Madonna and Child” by Boccaccio Boccaccino and several paintings by Veronese; also of great interest are the “Supper in the House of Simon” and “The Crucifixion” by Jacopo Tintoretto. For the eighteenth century, mention should be made of “Saint Joseph with the Child”, “Madonna” and “Christ in the Garden of Gethsemane” by Giambattista Tiepolo.
Within the Museum we also find the multimedia room dedicated to Giotto’s work in the Cappella degli Scrovegni.
Seven multimedia stations introduce visitors to the frescoes of the Chapel and the historical and artistic context in which Giotto worked.
The Civic Museums also have a Photographic Archive that holds over 36,000 negatives, 2,000 slides and many prints depicting the city or resulting from donations by Paduan photographers.
