Bassano del Grappa
Bassano del Grappa, in the province of Vicenza, is the region’s eighth-largest centre by population.
Its urban area extends well beyond the municipal boundaries: it includes the municipalities of Pove del Grappa, Solagna, Campolongo sul Brenta, Cartigliano, Nove and the villages of San Giuseppe and San Zeno in the municipality of Cassola, the main town of the municipality of Romano d'Ezzelino with its hamlets San Giacomo, Fellette and Sacro Cuore, and the hamlet of Travettore in the municipality of Rosà.
The urban area within which Bassano del Grappa is set thus has a total population of about 70,000 inhabitants, with some 150,000 inhabitants gravitating around it overall.

Bassano del Grappa is situated in the north-east of the Italian peninsula, in the heart of the Veneto region, on the border between the provinces of Vicenza, Padua and Treviso. The town lies at the foot of the Venetian Prealps (the Asiago Plateau and Monte Grappa), at the point where the Brenta emerges from the Canale di Brenta. The location is no coincidence: indeed, it offers simultaneous control over the countryside, the river and the main traffic routes.
The “Premio Cultura Città di Bassano” was established in 1978, and was created with the aim of honouring a person or an institution that, from a cultural point of view, had in some way contributed to enhancing and spreading the town’s prestige. The aspect linked to art, and therefore to the museum, has not always been favoured. The Prize is awarded on 19 January, the day of Saint Bassiano, on the occasion of the town’s patronal feast.
